I'm completely aware that this ensemble is not exactly worthy of an outfit post, but I don't want to leave you lovely readers high and dry. I really haven't been going out much these days; we typically end up grilling out or hanging at the pool or lake. I could make a gazillion excuses, but the bottom line is that it's f-ing hot here. I'm lucky if the temp even goes into the 70's at night. Not much longer though, fall is just around the corner. I'm heading to the beach for a week on Monday, so that should produce a few interesting posts. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Last month I blogged about Steve Madden's version of the Chloe Perspex, and while I loved the shoe, I didn't have the $99 to shell out for it. However, I inadvertently stumbled upon it on the clearance page on the SM website for $32. Damn. How can I not buy a pair? I opted for the black. The chunky wooden heel will look sweet this fall with tights.

I met some friends for drinks last night after a short stop at the mall. I discovered this distressed faux leather bomber jacket at Wet Seal (of all places) and immediately snatched it up. It's super soft, perfectly distressed and has cropped sleeves, which is ideal since I'm always rolling up my jacket sleeves anyway. I honestly don't know what lured me into Wet Seal, but I'm glad I made the stop.

I bought this tiered tunic without much of a plan. It's a weird length, but I like it paired with this flouncy black skirt, which makes it look like a dress. Whatever works.
And how great is this gigantic red barn??? I saw it and immediately insisted we pull over and snap some pics.

Funny story about these shorts. I decided I didn't need 2 pairs of old Levi's shorts in the same wash, so my creative side kicked in and I decided to lighten up one pair. I used some of the fabric that I cut off (they were originally jeans) to test out my plan. After mixing 1 part clorox and 5 parts water, I soaked the test fabric for about 15 minutes and it magically transformed into the perfect shade of light blue denim. However, when it was time for the shorts, I was so overconfident with my method that I saturated the shorts in the mixture and headed out for a quick meal. When I checked on them over an hour later, they were what I dare call an "ice" wash shade, much much lighter than the test piece. Seriously, they look either ice blue or white, depending on the lighting. So the method works if done properly, but I recommend checking on the color every 5-10 minutes or so. I kinda like the way they turned out, though. Not bad for a pair of $5 shorts...

Rachel Bilson chose a Brian Reyes dress from the designer’s pre-spring 2009 collection paired with nude platform sandals by Lanvin for the Teen Choice Awards. Makes me kinda feel like summer isn't so bad after all... images from tFS

This was yesterday's outfit. Made a random decision to wash out these pictures to give them sort of a vintage look, don't really know why though. I purchased this dress in an effort to step out of my comfort zone, but it's just too feminine for my taste. I thought the black gladiator platforms would toughen it up a bit, but not nearly as much as I had anticipated. What do you think? Too girly? Today my faux leather hooded vest arrived from f21 - just a mere 24 hours late to pair with this dress. I think they would have made a sweet combo. Or maybe it'll work this fall with some black tights and a motorcycle jacket...

We took a different route this weekend and discovered this rustic wall for these pics. I feel that it fits perfectly with the plaid shirt and old levi's. Please note that we did not eat there. Ha, ha.

Yeah, I make/design jewelry, but I dream of the day when I'm able to have original molds made to create pieces like this ring. At $125 it's really not a bad deal, but I know the markup for jewelry and it's crazy high, especially for a bronze piece.
I'm crazy excited about Topshop opening in NYC in October, and in my favorite shopping area in the entire city, Soho. My bff has lived in manhattan for the past 5 years, and I typically visit her 2-3 times a year. I haven't been since January, and I figure I'm due a visit. So Jen, clear your futon for any weekend after October 10th. I've already started a pile of stuff that I can sell on Ebay to justify the plane ticket. images from nitrolicious

"My style has changed since I was younger. I was kind of ashamed of my bourgeois family as a teenager, I guess - I had dreadlocks, shopped in thrift stores and pretended I had no money. At that time, I would have spat on a girl who was buying Yves Saint Laurent. I always laugh today thinking if I ran into my younger self, she would slap me." - Lou Doillon source: The Observer

As I'm sure you've heard, the Olsens' book will be available at the end of October. There's a bit of controversy on the Olsen thread at tFS as to which pic is which twin. I say without a doubt, Mary Kate is on the left. Is her messy hair not a dead giveaway? Any thoughts?
Went to a wedding shower for our friends last night. It wasn't a typical shower though; there was plenty of alcohol and fun. And on a side note, it's ridiculously hard to walk in gravel with heels on. Why is that???

Old Levi's, a tank, and my Charlotte Ronson platforms... this is pretty much my default outfit for summer. So I decided not to fight it and just added a short-sleeved jacket to break up the monotony.
And on the bottom left of the first pic is Cali, my crazy silly pup who somehow managed to slip into these pics. It was bound to happen eventually.

Judging from some of the fall 08 collections, scrunch boots are coming on strong. I read the article on tFS about this "new trend," but I just don't know how new it is. I have a pair of scrunchy Steve Madden boots from several years ago that definitely aren't new. However, the over-the-knee height is yummy, and I'm quite excited about incorporating that into my look this fall. I'll have to find some taller boots though; last year I wore legwarmers over my knees to give the illusion of scrunchy/tall boots.
I did a brief search for scrunch boots and this is what I found: Alloy "Thayer" & "Scout" boot ($40) & Moschino Cheap & Chic Scrunch Boot ($745). Talk about high/low...
